Adolescent Treatment

Adolescent TreatmentTreatment during the adolescent period provides an opportunity for the orthodontist to favorably influence growth and development of the jaws and profile.

Treatment initiated during the pre-teen years may reduce appearance consciousness as well as provide improved self-image and self-esteem.

Poorly aligned teeth are difficult to adequately clean, which may lead to future decay of hard to reach areas, as well as gum disease. Orthodontic treatment will dramatically improve the patient’s ability to maintain good oral health for years ahead. A lifetime of health and freedom from dental problems is a wonderful gift for your child.

Most patients are treated during adolescence between the ages of 10-12. Generally, all the permanent teeth have erupted by the age of 12 and the majority of jaw growth has occurred.

The duration of orthodontic treatment varies from patient to patient, clearly dependent on the severity of the bite problem. Movement of the teeth is a gradual biological process, and an average amount of time in treatment is approximately 18 to 24 months. We will make every effort to provide comprehensive, thorough treatment, and to conclude treatment in a timely fashion.
